I am very fond of the image of the virtual consulting office and its waiting room, open to visitors. A “room for meetings” suspended in the electronic space of Internet and open to everyone who is attracted by the “notices on the walls” … Until recently I used to watch with hidden fear how the Internet was beginning to turn into an obsession and how it usurped the place of personal intimate relations. However, now I know that what they say about the conflicts (as well as just about everything else in life) – that there are no good or bad conflicts, good or bad can be only the way in which they are resolved – can be applied to the Internet. The Internet in itself is neither good nor bad - good or bad can be only the way in which it is utilized. I am convinced that e-therapy is a form in which the Internet can be used in a good way – for meeting the person outside the door… for meeting your own self…
I am well aware of the fact that the “intermediary” communication imposes too many limitations on the full value therapeutic contact and cannot substitute for personal contact. At the same time I completely trust the capabilities of e-therapy to provide aid, instruction and support in the difficult periods of our life. The advancement of the electronic technologies is inevitable and irrespectively of what we think about the intermediary connection via Internet or telephone, it is a means enabling the utilization of different types of services immensely. Е-therapy (or the on-line consulting) makes the professional help of a specialist psycho-therapist accessible to a much greater number of people, who for one reason or another cannot afford a personal visit to the consulting office of a psycho-therapist. Moreover, I am glad that by offering this service more and more people who are going through a tough period of crises and stress in their lives can have access to professional consultation by a specialist and the chance to emerge from their crises stronger and wiser. However, the main thing that makes me trust distance consulting is my strong belief in the power of the spoken word to heal and to guide people in the dark maze of life. I myself have often turned to books in difficult times of my life and drawn hope and wisdom from the contact with them. If for me the contact with the written word in the books had the effect that a wiser and more experienced person than me could instruct and guide me through life, why then shouldn’t I believe that this can be achieved by means of e-therapy?!
